The original Shanghai-Plaster-finished (exposed stone aggregates mixed with cement to form a gentle and rough texture) facade of the old site building was preserved, cleaned and restored. Door and window heights were lowered to create a more inviting and human-scale commercial street presence. The randomly patterned stainless steel bookshelves on the wall in the store form layered horizontal lines, unfolding as the wall folds, echoing the material and form of the eaves on the facade.
